Does this trade make sense for Dallas Mavericks?
The Mavericks are going to be contending as long as Doncic is on the team. He has quickly become one of the best players in the league and put up another MVP-caliber season this year. Dallas has been unable to advance in the postseason but they are going to be a team that qualifies over the years. They could kill two birds with one stone with a trade like this.

Adding a player like CJ McCollum to pair with Luka Doncic could the Mavericks a strong duo at the most important position in the league. Doncic has proven to be a capable leader and is only going to improve from here. The team is in need of a secondary ball handler that can get it done alongside Doncic and lead the second unit when he’s on the bench.
In this deal, they would also be able to unload a disgruntled player in Kristaps Porzingis. This goes a long way for the locker room and the overall energy around the team. It wouldn’t hurt to land a better fitting player that can knockdown catch-and-shoot jumpers while being dynamic off-the-dribble, too.
It is unknown the true feelings of Kristaps Porzingis or whether Portland really wants to split up their duo. Is something we will observe as the postseason concludes and we enter the offseason. This trade will certainly shake up the Western Conference and could be the blockbuster that both teams are looking for.
