Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?

There is a big-picture question about what the Spurs are doing, in general, but that’s a separate issue from the context of this NBA trade scenario. Teams like them do not simply tearing it all down and undergo a long-term rebuild. If they are set on sticking in their current style, it’s difficult to envision much for attainable options being better than Domantas Sabonis.
If DeMar DeRozan ends up departing the Spurs in NBA free agency, there is going to be a hurt for scoring that San Antonio simply cannot go without addressing it. Domantas Sabonis would help directly while also adding more of a facilitation element.
The Spurs’ perimeter players would benefit from having Domantas Sabonis to run DHOs out on the perimeter to help create favorable opportunities to get downhill, or even cut against top-locks. Sabonis has the ability to make the most of these sequences and cater to the strengths of the group.
