Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
The Mavericks initially brought Kristaps Porzingis to town when they were down and looking to turn things around. It worked as they landed the fifth seed in a difficult Western Conference this season. Porzingis was not the reason as Luka Doncic put up another MVP-caliber season. This is why he wants to be moved and it would benefit the Mavericks.

If a player is disgruntled, it makes sense for the front office to look for a deal. When a player does not want to be there, it could cause some riffs in the locker room, especially when involving a player like Luka Doncic. The Mavericks do not need this as they look to turn into contenders in the Western Conference.
Washington is not the player that Porzingis is but he would be a rotation piece that could contribute right away. This will come down to if the Mavericks feel that the situation is serious. They will have to get a sense on where Porzingis is moving forward.
This will not happen soon but it is something to monitor during the offseason. The Mavericks are still dealing with the effects of being eliminated in seven games by the Los Angeles Clippers. This is an issue that will be revisited as time goes on.
