Minnesota Timberwolves
In the months leading up to the 2020 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves were itching to get the No. 1 overall pick. After winning the first-overall pick in the lottery, the conversation turned to who the organization should select to pair with Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell. Following careful consideration from the front office, Anthony Edwards would be the choice out of Georgia.

Edwards would show a ton of promise in his rookie season, notching 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. The first-year guard is a front-runner to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award alongside LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets.
With Edwards proving to be a foundational piece for the future, it’s time for the Timberwolves to do everything they can to convince Towns to remain in Minnesota long-term.
Continually building through the draft has rarely worked in the NBA and the Timberwolves can attest to that. If Minnesota wants to begin trending toward becoming a playoff team in the Western Conference, there has to be a point where they choose to forego the draft in favor of a proven commodity that can fare well alongside Towns, Russell, and Edwards.
