What to expect from the Mavericks this offseason?
This offseason is not going to be as eventful as offseasons in the past for the Mavericks mainly because they do not have the assets to really do much. Re-signing Tim Hardaway Jr. is their primary focus right now, especially after he had some great performances in the playoffs, and on top of everything else, they need to figure out what to do with Kristaps Porzingis.
Obviously, if the Mavericks can trade him to some other team in the offseason, they would be foolish not to explore this opportunity, but that seems like a major long-shot right now. No team is going to want to absorb a $100M+ contract over the next three years, especially for a player that has not looked the same ever since he tore his left ACL in 2018.

While they will have a solid amount of cap space and potentially close to $30M in cap space should Josh Richardson opt out of his contract, a lot of this money will go towards not only potentially keeping Tim Hardaway Jr., but giving Luka Doncic one of the biggest contract extensions in the history of the NBA.
Dallas will explore the trade market and potentially look to bring in another playmaker to take pressure off of Doncic to do everything for this team, but overall, the Mavericks do not have much to trade. They have no draft picks in 2023 and their most valuable trade assets is probab;y Dorian Finney-Smith, who Dallas has no plans to trade right now.

Dwight Powell is a guy to keep an eye on in terms of potentially being traded this offseason, especially since he is owed $22.1M over the next two years. Powell only saw around 16.7 minutes per game this season after tearing his Achilles last year in his right leg and could be moved as an immediate means for Dallas to gain a solid amount of cap space.
Trading Powell opens up the door for the Mavericks to potentially fill out their roster in free agency with viable, consistent threats on the offensive-end of the court, something they desperately need.
The Dallas Mavericks could definitely make some moves to shake things up roster wise, but overall, do not expect this organization to be going after other All-Star talents. Next offseason, definitely, but this offseason, Dallas is going to be looking to create structure for long-term success.
