Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
Making a change from a personnel standpoint is necessary for the Boston Celtics. With Kemba Walker in the backcourt, it appears there’s too much redundancy on the perimeter. The one-two punch of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as the focal points is all that is necessary for the team to be successful. Now, they need to get the right complements around them.

The Celtics have solid talent at the center position but they could use a more dynamic threat like Kristaps Porzingis. His ability to knockdown shots from beyond the arc would add an intriguing dynamic alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown by opening up the floor.
It’s important to remember, Porzingis still averaged 20.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists during 43 appearances this season. He may have had a poor playoff series against the LA Clippers, but that was heavily influenced by the opposition switching ball screens and going with a completely small unit for much of the series. In regular settings, he has a lot of value.
Moving on from Kemba Walker’s contract will be important for the Celtics. Managing to land a bit cheaper of a contract for a younger player that fills a more immediate need, Boston would be doing themselves a favor.
