Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
While they did sign Danilo Gallinari last offseason to a three-year deal, flipping him and a young player in Onyeka Okongwu for Derrick White and Jakob Poeltl would be a “home-run” acquisition and move by the Hawks’ front-office.
Gallinari fits their system well, but adding Derrick White to the backcourt gives the Hawks another primary ball-handler who can score bsides Trae Young and then in their frontcourt, adding Jakob Poeltl gives them another big body who can play pick-and-roll basketball when Capela is not in the game.

The best part about this trade for Atlanta though is that they would not have to give up any draft assets, at least in the proposal outlined above! The Hawks would be getting a 25-year-old center and a 26-year-old guard for a veteran forward and an unproven young center, so why wouldn’t they make this trade?
This deal would be a dream come true for the Hawks because they would be addressing the two areas of their team that they will be looking to upgrade in the offseason. Getting Trae Young more help in the bacocurt is going to be a given this offseason and in the frontcourt, Atlanta would be smart to have an “insurance plan” incase Clint Capela gets hurt.
This trade makes complete sense for the Atlanta Hawks, but their counterparts may not be too keen on the idea of this proposal.
