Toronto decided to hold onto Lowry through the NBA trade deadline, which surprised some as he is entering NBA free agency at 36-years old. If the Raptors bring him back, it could be with the understanding that they would work out a trade if the team struggles again.
That would make sense for both sides, as the Raptors can pay Lowry more with his Bird rights. Losing a franchise icon for nothing in NBA free agency would be a tough pill to swallow for the organization.
If Kyle Lowry does move on, it would be a changing of the guard for Toronto and the end of an era. While Kawhi Leonard was the best player on the title team, Lowry has been the most iconic in the franchise’s history.
