What to expect from the Wizards in the offseason?

Ultimately, I would not be surprised if the Wizards traded their draft pick and possibly a guy like Davis Bertans to bring in a key talent to pair with Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal. As things stand right now, Westbrook and Beal are the two main contributors to this team and then they have Rui Hachimura, Daniel Gafford and Deni Avdija (when healthy) as their secondary contributors.

This team needs more high-level talent if they are to be a sure-thing playoff threat next season, which is why trading away Davis Bertans in the offseason could make a ton of sense. He is a guy that is only really used to knock down three-point shots and is targeted by opposing teams on the defensive-end of the court, so what can he really do for this Washington team in the long-term picture?

Trading away Bertans definitely makes sense for the Wizards assuming that they can add a talented and reliable guy that can give them 14+ points per game on the offensive-end of the court consistently.

If Washington does not make any big trades this offseason, then the 2021-22 season will most likely consist of continuing to build up their young talents, including whoever they draft with the 15th pick this year.

Rui Hachimura will be entering his third season in the league and is coming off a really solid “sophomore year” in the NBA. Deni Avdija and Daniel Gafford will be entering their second years in the league and big man Thomas Bryant will technically be entering his fifth season in the league, but he has only played in a total of 143 career games.

There is still a lot of learning from experience that has to be done with this Wizards team moving forward, which is why expectations for them to take a major leap and become a top team in the Eastern Conference should be lowered. This team will likely be in the same position in the 2021-22 season as they were this year in terms of fighting for a play-in spot and being a borderline playoff team in the Eastern Conference.
