Does this trade make sense for the Cleveland Cavaliers?
The Cleveland Cavaliers’ primary intention would be to avoid having to hand out a major extension to Collin Sexton since they seemingly do not feel as though it would be the right approach for roster construction purposes. Trading him for cheaper pieces would be the way to go, as a result, which the Knicks surely could oblige with their offerings.

Obi Toppin and Kevin Knox II may not be Collin Sexton, but adding the young duo could give the Cavaliers some young depth on their roster. Toppin just wrapped up his rookie season where he shot 49.8 percent from the floor and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc and he could play a huge role with the Cavaliers.
Kevin Knox II has been involved in a variety of NBA trade rumors regarding the New York Knicks since he has consistently underachieved since being drafted. Knox has a big frame and has shown flashes at times, so it may be worth a flier from the Cavaliers’ perspective.
The real appeal in this situation is that Obi Toppin would be able to fill a key role in the frontcourt with the Cavaliers surely soon moving on from Kevin Love. There is a lot of interest around the league for Larry Nance Jr., so Cleveland could further save money by moving him and pairing Toppin long-term with Jarrett Allen in the frontcourt.
