Portland Trail Blazers Receives: C/F Kristaps Porzingis

Dallas Mavericks Receives: G Norman Powell (via sign and trade), F Robert Covington, F Nassir Little, 2023 1st Round Pick

The Portland Trail Blazers already are paying a lot to have Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum in the backcourt. It’s going to break the bank to pay what it takes to bring back Norman Powell in NBA free agency for redundant skill-sets. As a team with money to spend, the Dallas Mavericks could take advantage of those circumstances.

In an attempt to repurpose the salary cap spending room being used on Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavericks should look to move him in a sign-and-trade deal for Powell. Of course, Powell would have to agree to come to Dallas before anything could transpire, but if he did, it would be a prime opportunity.

Keep in mind, the trade value is not going to be proportional for the Trail Blazers because Powell would be departing in NBA free agency in this circumstance. Porzingis has an unfavorable contract so Portland would move Robert Covington, Nassir Little, and a 2023 1st round pick to get a deal done.

Let’s take a look at how this trade directly impacts each team directly.
