The signs were plastered on the all for things to change for the Boston Celtics, and the organization didn’t waste any time shaking things up. Less than 48 hours after being eliminated by the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the NBA playoffs, Danny Ainge stepped down as president of basketball operations, and the Celtics would promote Brad Stevens to Ainge’s previous position.

With Stevens now helping call the shots in the front office, there is one player in particular that could be out the door: Kemba Walker. He just completed his second season with the Celtics, averaging 19.3 points and 4.9 assists per game in 43 games. The veteran point guard has battled injury issues in recent years, and he possesses arguably one of the worst contracts in the NBA.

Entering the offseason, Walker has two years remaining on his current contract that is worth $73 million, with a player option in place for the 2022-2023 season.

The Celtics would prefer to build around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, making Walker an expendable piece moving forward. Trading Walker is easier said than done for Boston, and there’s a good chance that the Celtics will need to add draft capital for a team to inherit the rest of his contract.

In light of all of that, there are a handful of teams that could be a possible trade destination for Walker this offseason.
