Why this trade would make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers would receive great value for a veteran player they’re seemingly overpaying for. Let’s be honest, they have no business paying CJ McCollum over 100 million dollars over the next three years to complement Damian Lillard when he isn’t a game-changing talent in the NBA playoffs.

Dealing away CJ McCollum would allow the Trail Blazers to re-tool their roster in a much needed way while still keeping their base of Damian Lillard on the squad. The additions of Immanuel Quickly, Obi Toppin, and Kevin Knox II give the Blazers some much needed depth that has the potential to emerge into the league’s next big star.

Immanuel Quickly and Obi Toppin have especially played some valuable minutes for the New York Knicks and they have played very well in their rotational roles. Let’s not forget, the Trail Blazers could also work to re-sign Norman Powell at a lower cost than McCollum and have him shoulder a heavier load.

While losing out on CJ McCollum would be a bummer for Portland fans, it could be a necessary step in order to get the team over the hump in the wild wild Western Conference.
