When Andre Drummond was bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers around the trade deadline, there were a handful of teams expressing interest in signing him. The Toronto Raptors were among the group of teams pondering whether or not signing Drummond would be a wise idea. Even before he was bought out, the Raptors spoke to the Cavaliers about a possible trade for Drummond.

There were a few reasons why Toronto backed out of a trade for Drummond, and one of them was likely due to the team’s struggles in the latter part of the season. But with the Raptors having a glaring need at center, they can pursue Drummond without having to sacrifice any assets aside from the money they’d need to pay him in NBA free agency.
Some people believe that Chris Boucher should be inserted into the starting lineup after the improvements he showed in 2020-2021. However, signing Drummond would allow Boucher to continue thriving off of the bench, or Drummond could replace Boucher as a key bench player.
Regardless of what Toronto wants to do with Boucher, strengthening their front court with Drummond could be beneficial for both sides.
