Sam Cassell

Speaking of former players, Sam Cassell wasn’t a bad player himself, spending the last 17 games of his career with the Celtics. Cassell was mostly known for his time with the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Bucks. Just a year after retiring from the NBA in 2007, Cassell accepted an assistant coaching job with the Washington Wizards under Flip Saunders.

Cassell would then leave the Wizards in 2014 to become an assistant under Doc Rivers on the Los Angeles Clippers. The former point guard out of Florida State is still an assistant under Rivers, but he is now residing in Philadelphia. In recent seasons, Cassell’s name has been mentioned as an assistant that could earn a promotion in the near future.

There are a handful of former members of the Celtics that Boston could consider in their coaching search. While Cassell didn’t spend much time wearing green for the Celtics, there aren’t many more guys more prepared to take a head coaching job than Cassell is.

This is a very likely option for Boston to look into and it would be a very solid hire and would bring a new mind to the coaching circle.
