Jason Kidd
Jason Kidd was one of the best point guards to grace the NBA, making flashy passes, and scoring in a variety of ways. While Kidd was far from a mediocre player, the same can’t be said for his coaching resume. Following a legendary playing career, Kidd landed a head coaching gig with the Brooklyn Nets in 2013-2014, being hired in the same cycle as Stevens.
Unlike Brad Stevens though, Kidd lasted just one year with the Nets before he was fired. Despite his shortcomings in Brooklyn, the Milwaukee Bucks gave Kidd three-and-a-half years to be the head coach of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo used to advocate for Kidd as a leader, even when the Bucks elected to move on from him during the 2017-2018 season.
Kidd is now an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers under Frank Vogel, and he was also named alongside Pierce as an early name to watch for the Celtics. Getting a former player at the helm could be what Boston needs to take the next step in their journey toward becoming a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference.
Once again, this may not be an ideal fit, but it is one that could make sense for the Celtics.
