Lloyd Pierce
Fans of the Celtics were not fond of the reports that surfaced shortly after Brad Stevens was promoted to Ainge’s old position. Multiple reports, first by ESPN’s Chris Haynes, shared that Lloyd Pierce is considered a possible replacement for Stevens.
Pierce was fired as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks early in the 2020-2021 season following a dismal 14-20 start. Nate McMillan, who would become the interim coach after Pierce was let go, helped turn around Atlanta’s season, and they are now poised for a push to the second round of the playoffs. As for Pierce, he put together a 63-120 record as the head man for the Hawks from 2018-2021.
Before Pierce was the head coach in Atlanta, he had stints as an assistant in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics could view the 45-year-old coach as someone who wasn’t given a fair shot in Atlanta.
It is far from a home run choice, but Pierce seems to be a name to pay attention to in Boston’s head coaching search.
