Does this trade make sense for the Chicago Bulls?
The Chicago Bulls could be growing tired of Lauri Markkanen’s injury concerns. At some point, the big man either has to stay healthy or he will be moved. The Bulls would be able to get a replacement big who could use a change of scenery in Bagley. Billy Donovan made some big moves with the rotation following the All-Star break this season and the front office could follow it up by getting him some new players.
Donovan moved Markkanen to the bench after the break. He was dealing with an upper-body injury that caused him to miss some time. Prior to the season, it seemed locked in that Markkanen would be returning to Chicago next season but that is not the case anymore.
The Bulls are going to continue to build around Zach LaVine and make him the focal point. If this is the case, Markkanen could be the first player sent out of town. If they can get his replacement, that is even better. With Nikola Vucevic at center, a versatile defender like Thaddeus Young or Patrick Williams is what’s needed, not a defensive-liability like Lauri Markkanen.

Donovan already made the big move that seems like the first step. Now, it is up to the front office to continue to trend and find the right deal. They will have plenty of offers so it will be interesting to see which one they go with. However, moving Markkanen for Marvin Bagley III when the team already has Vucevic doesn’t move the needle, either.
