Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
The Boston Celtics brought in Tristan Thompson from NBA free agency last offseason but it did not work out in year one. This could be the only year of the experiment and they could look to send him away. Danny Ainge might benefit from having a draft pick rather than keeping Thompson in the lineup.
Thompson and Daniel Theis made an extremely underwhelming duo in the frontcourt this season. Robert Williams is a bench piece and has shown that he is not ready to play significant minutes in a starting rule. This leaves the Celtics right back to where they started in the offseason.
On their way to a seven seed, the Celtics struggled with inconsistency and were taken down by some of the better bags in the Eastern Conference. This is something that will have to change moving forward if they want to continue to be championship contenders.

At the end of the day, trading Thompson would not harm the Celtics in anyway. In fact, it could turn out to be a positive for Boston and this is why they should take a look early in the offseason.
