Would this trade would make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?

The San Antonio Spurs would land a young center with a team-controlled contract to build around and develop into a nice player for the team. They would take a blow by losing out on Derrick White and Jakob Poeltl, but the addition of a young talent in Onyeka Okongwu could be too good to pass up on.

Onyeka Okongwu was the No. 6 overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2020 NBA Draft, but due to the team’s success with Clint Capela at the center position, they haven’t used Okongwu all that often. A combination of injuries and being on a winning team as a rookie have been factors.

There wasn’t a lot that has been shown from Okongwu yet in his NBA career when considering he averaged 12.0 minutes, 4.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 50 appearances. He still has a lot of potential based on what he displayed during his NCAA career at USC.

DeMar DeRozan is set to reach NBA free agency this offseason, so landing Danilo Gallinari to potentially replace that lost scoring load would be vital. If DeRozan were to return, San Antonio would have all the more offensive firepower.
