While the NBA trade deadline has since expired and rosters are currently duking it out for a chance at hoisting a championship trophy, you better believe this upcoming offseason will be just as entertaining as the deadline was.
Two teams who could make sense as potential trade partners include the New York Knicks and the New Orleans Pelicans. In order for this trade for even happen, the Pelicans would have to convince their point guard Lonzo Ball agree to a sign and trade before a trade could even happen, but it could make sense from a monetary standpoint.
Ball could agree to a sign-and-trade type of deal with the Pelicans so that he could maximize his monetary goals and still be traded to a contending team like the Knicks. It would also enable the Knicks to have more flexibility in terms of roster reconfiguration.
A trade between these two teams could catch a lot of people off guard, but we’ve seen many great trades go down in the league’s history between a great team and a sub-par squad. A deal between these two teams could help each side build for the future, while also investing in their current roster as well.
The Pelicans and Knicks could embark on a trade that could see some great talent being sent out to both squads, and it could make a lot of sense. Both the Knicks and Pelicans want to set themselves up better for long term success and a trade between these teams could allow them to accomplish that task.
With that being said, let’s take a look at what a trade between these two teams could look like this offseason based on analysis from Bleacher Report’s Greg Schwartz.
