Warriors, Wizards named potential trade destinations for Al Horford

The Oklahoma City Thunder will have quite a few decisions to make this offseason, but one that already seems like a forgone conclusion is that they will trade veteran big man Al Horford. Sam Presti has acquired and flipped veteran players for a ton of draft picks and Horford will be more of the same. Right now, it sounds like the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards could be potential trade destinations for him.

According to HoopsHype, the Wizards and Warriors make sense as potential trade partners for the Thunder when it comes to Horford.

There are some teams I can see being a good fit. The Warriors or Washington to name a few. I think he’s rehabilitated his trade value well enough this season that somebody will want to acquire him.

Horford would be a very intriguing fit for both of those teams. For the Warriors, he would give them a veteran presence at the center position and would fit into the offense nicely with his ability to step out and knock down the three-point shot. On the other hand, the Wizards are looking for a quality front-court presence to play alongside Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal.

During the 2020-21 NBA season with the Thunder, Horford only played in 28 games before the team shut him down. He averaged 14.2 points per game to go along with 6.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.9 steals. Horford shot 45 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 36.8 percent of his three-point attempts.

At 34 years of age, Horford still has some great basketball left in him. He still has two years left on his contract as well. Both the Warriors and Wizards would be wise to look into what it would take to acquire Horford.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up this offseason. Plenty of other teams will likely check in with interest in Horford as well. The Thunder aren’t going to keep him on the roster and he doesn’t fit the long-term picture for the franchise, which means that the price tag on acquiring him likely won’t be high at all.

Expect to hear quite a few rumors surrounding Al Horford this offseason. Don’t be surprised if the Warriors and Wizards are among the list of teams pursuing a trade for him.
