Both the Detroit Pistons and the Minnesota Timberwolves finished near the bottom of the standings in the league once again, but both of these organizations may finally be able to take the next step and start winning games next NBA season. 

While Detroit finished with the second-worst record in the league, they really were not that bad of a team. It was clear to see that they were “tanking” with key guys like Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee resting during the last month or so during the regular season, but they got plenty of production from some of their young pieces.

Saddiq Bey had an awesome rookie season, as did Killian Hayes and Isaiah Stewart, who were both given opportunities when the Pistons started resting their usual starters. With these three young talents expected to continue seeing big minutes moving forward, as well as Jerami Grant, Mason Plumlee and Cory Joseph all under contract for next season, Detroit could be a team that definitely flirts with 30+ wins.  

Minnesota is also in a similar position as the Pistons given all of their young talent that is starting to grow. We all know what Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell can do when healthy, but with Anthony Edwards having a Rookie of the Year type of season and then rookie Jaden McDaniels also looking like a building block at the power-forward position moving forward, Minnesota looks like a team that is one the verge of being something special should they remain healthy. 

Player development will be big in the offseason for both of these teams, but Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report seems to think that a trade could be on the horizon between these two “bottomfeeders” of the league. Malik Beasley was a player that stepped up for Minnesota this year, but could the Pistons offer a lucrative trade package for the young wing?
