Charlotte Hornets Receive: F Pascal Siakam

Toronto Raptors Receive: F P.J. Washington, C Vernon Carey Jr., CHA 2021 1st Round Pick (Top-5 Protected)

Since being drafted by the Toronto Raptors in 2016, Pascal Siakam has worked his way up from being a key role player to being a star in this league and a forward that can be an All-Star for many years to come. Given his length and ability to attack the glass, Siakam is a very dangerous offensive player in the paint, which is why a team like the Charlotte Hornets could show a lot of interest in him should he become available.

The Hornets seem to be one piece away from being something special in the Eastern Conference and with a big need for a reliable frontcourt player, Siakam could be the answer for them if they are willing to pay the price for him.

Who knows what Toronto would want in exchange for Siakam, but in this trade package, they would be receiving a highly talented and young forward in P.J. Washington, a young center in Vernon Carey and likely a second lottery pick to pair with their own in this year’s draft.

Washington finished his second full season with the Hornets this year and put together yet another solid season, averaging 12.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and shooting 38.6% from three-point range. He showed a glimpse into his full potential earlier in the year when he dropped 42 points on the Sacramento Kings, which is why Year 3 for P.J. Washington could be a breakout season for him.

If Toronto was to trade Siakam, getting P.J. Washington would definitely be a great addition for them in the frontcourt and he could easily fill the role that Siakam would leave behind. With that said, let’s take a look at if this trade fully makes sense for both the Hornets and the Toronto Raptors and if this is something to monitor heading into the offseason.
