Why The Trade Benefits The Mavericks

Kelly Oubre Jr. has a chance to sign a deal with the Warriors that is worth $15 million annually. Once this deal is signed, he could be sent to the Mavericks.

This is how the deal would go and it would benefit both sides. The Mavericks do not have a player like Oubre Jr. and he could fit into their offensive plan better than he did in Golden State.

Dallas made a move into the postseason down in the bubble and they continued with a five seed this year. If they want to compete in a difficult Western Conference, they will need to continue to add strong players. This summer, Oubre Jr. will be one of the top second-tier players available.

This does not sound like a blockbuster that the Mavericks could be looking for, but it is a depth move to give them a starting-caliber small forward. Oubre Jr. has proven that he can score the ball at a high level and that could even go up a notch in Dallas with a system tailored a bit more to his game.

The Mavericks are well-balanced and have some star power on the roster. With that being said, they are not a finished product and have some more room for improvement. This is a move that could land them one improvement right away.
