The Hypothetical Trade

Golden State Warriors receive: F Dorian Finney-Smith, C Dwight Powell

Dallas Mavericks receive: SF Kelly Oubre Jr. (via sign-and-trade)

Oubre Jr. is a restricted free agent in the offseason, so this could be a sign-and-trade deal between the two sides. There will be some interest in the small forward and the Warriors could have their chance to pick a deal. They are locked into some other contracts that would make it difficult to sign Oubre Jr., so they could begin to look into potential trade partners.

This is where the Mavericks would come into play. The return could begin with Dorian Finney-Smith. He is an all-around player that can fill it up from deep. Dwight Powell is a big man that would improve the front-court in Golden State right away. There are some good fits for both sides in this deal.

On the flip side of things, the Mavericks wouldn’t have to get a sign-and-trade deal done with Oubre Jr. They could simply offer him a big deal and force the Warriors to let him walk. As mentioned, the Warriors don’t have the cap space to bring him back, although a sign-and-trade could keep the Mavericks open financially.

Let’s take a closer look and see how this deal would benefit both sides right away next season.
