Jaren Jackson Jr. takes advantage of the Spurs’ lack of size inside

Getting Jaren Jackson Jr. back into the rotation has been a big boost for the Memphis Grizzlies and since he has returned and while Memphis is only 4-7 in the 11 games Jackson Jr. has played in this year, he has been really productive.

Over the last week, JJJ’s overall production and minutes have begun to increase, which is a good sign for Grizzlies’ fans heading into this game against the San Antonio Spurs, especially since the Spurs do not have much of an interior presence on the defensive-end of the court.

Jakob Poeltl will have his hands full guarding Jonas Valanciunas in the low-post, which means that Jaren Jackson Jr. will draw a very favorable matchup against either DeMar DeRozan or Keldon Johnson. Either way, he will have the size and footwork to be able to score against either of them on the low-block or in the paint.

In 11 games this season, Jackson Jr. has averaged 14.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and has shot 42.4% from the floor, 28.3% from three-point range. His outside shot has been off, but I am fully expecting Jaren Jackson Jr. to have a great game against the Spurs. He will likely see around 28 minutes in this game and with a favorable matchup, he could end up being one of the Grizzlies’ leading-scorers in this one.

He has scored in double-figures in 10 of the 11 games he has played in for the Grizzlies this season and with Jackson Jr. seeing double-digit shot attempts per game over his last 4 or so games, he is on track to have a really solid performance for Memphis in this one.
