Re-sign Richaun Holmes and do not let him go in NBA free agency

The first order of business in the offseason for the Sacramento Kings will revolve around Richaun Holmes and his expired contract. Holmes is in the final year of his contract and he will definitely be a highly sought after unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The 27-year-old center has made a name for himself in Sacramento over the last two years and given the career-year he is having this season, it would not be shocking to see him take his time in NBA free agency and take in as many offers as he can. At 27-years-old, Holmes is playing the best basketball of his career and is set to “cash-in” on free agency.

In 59 games with Sacramento this year, Holmes is averaging 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and is shooting 64% from the floor. While he does not possess much of an outside shot, Richaun Holmes has made a name for himself offensively with the Kings by being dominant in the paint.

His 2.4 offensive rebounds per game ranks tied for 11th in the league and he may possess the best floater out of any big man in the league. Most centers or power-forwards look to out-muscle their opponents and while Holmes can do that, his floater game is as good as anybody’s in the league!

Richaun Holmes has an excellent touch around the rim and given his athleticism and versatility, he could easily be a key player that the Kings can build around for years to come. He has absolutely earned himself a raise on a big contract this offseason, but whether or not the Kings will pay him is a huge question.

In order for them to take a big step next year and potentially make the playoffs, they will need to keep Richaun Holmes and re-sign him, but with other teams like the Hornets, Wizards, Raptors and possibly others looking for a center this upcoming offseason, Holmes could look to sign elsewhere.
