Extend Zach LaVine long-term

Entering the 2020-21 season, there was a lot of speculation about what the future held for Zach LaVine and if the Chicago Bulls would trade him. Very quickly, these rumors were shot down by both the Bulls and LaVine given how great he was playing on the court and how important he proved to be to this team early on in the year.

This season, Zach LaVine accounts for close to 25% of the Bulls’ total scoring on average per game and he has both the highest win share rate on the team and the highest usage rate. He is the future of this Bulls organization, which is why they need to offer him a long-term, max-contract extension in the offseason.

LaVine joined the Bulls ahead of the 2017-18 season and every year since then, not only has he improved drastically as an all-around talent, but he has led them in scoring for the last three seasons. Zach LaVine is too talented of a player to let go, which is why the Bulls need to lock him up long-term to stay in Chicago for the foreseeable future.

Chicago has made many mistakes over the years when it comes to roster reconstruction and letting key guys go, but this is not a mistake they can afford to make. If Zach LaVine does not reach a contract extension agreement in the offseason with the Bulls, he will be one of the most sought after free agents in 2022, which would be catastrophic for the Chicago Bulls organization.
