The Memphis Grizzlies are his team and they are going to build around him instead of with him
Since they drafted him 2nd overall in 2019, the Memphis Grizzlies have installed all of their faith into Ja Morant being their future and he has responded to this by being the Grizzlies leader over the last two years.
He may not be the oldest guy in the Grizzlies’ locker room, nor the most experienced, but Morant leads through example and with heart. He always leaves it all out on the court, win or lose, and there is not one guy in Memphis’ locker room that does not respect and like Ja Morant.
He is arguably the Grizzlies’ most beloved teammate and with him having the “keys to the franchise,” he will only continue to get better. Guys like Jonas Valanciunas, Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson have all been key factors in the Grizzlies’ success this year, but this is Ja Morant’s team.

Both he and Jaren Jackson Jr. are the two main focuses of this team, when they are healthy, and as a result, the Grizzlies are going to continue to build around their two young stars rather than have them be building blocks in their long-term plans.
Morant is going to grow into a star-level point guard and will have a chance to make multiple All-Star games over the next several seasons, which is why he has a real chance of becoming a Top-5 point guard in this league one day.
