3 teams who could pursue Carmelo Anthony in free agency

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland needs to do everything they can to try and keep Carmelo Anthony this offseason not just because he is a key talent for them off-the-bench, but because they are not going to get his kind of value through someone else.

The Trail Blazers gave Carmelo Anthony a chance to prove himself when no other team in the league would and he has arguably been their third most important player over the last two seasons outside of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.

He may not be the scoring machine he once was, but Anthony is still able to get to his spots on the court and deliver a much needed basket for Portland on any possession down the court. If the Trail Blazers let Melo go elsewhere, they would be losing a key bench scorer that they would not be able to replace at the price they are currently paying Carmelo.

This team obviously needs to get better defensively in the offseason and that seems like a given at this point, but giving up Carmelo Anthony and letting him sign elsewhere would be a foolish move because it would hurt their offense.

The last thing Portland needs to deal with is not only trying to fix their defense, but trying to fix their bench scoring numbers as well because they were not able to re-sign Carmelo Anthony in free agency.
