Love is owed $60.2M through the 2022-23 season
Kevin Love’s contract is ridiculous and the Cavaliers should not even want to pay him this kind of money! Love is now 32-years-old and this year, his contract is worth $31.26M. Next year, Love will be paid $31.26M again, and then for the 2022-23 season, he is owed $28.94M.
Not only is he not worth this kind of contract anymore, but the Portland Trail Blazers do not have a lot of cap space as it is and would not be able to take on this kind of contract without sacrificing key players on their roster!
There is a slim chance that a buyout agreement similar to that of Andre Drummond’s could happen with the Cavs and Love, forcing Kevin Love to give up part of his salary in a buyout agreement, but overall, trading for the veteran forward should not be in the Trail Blazers’ plans.
He is not worth this kind of value anymore given that he is barely averaging 11 points per game and with both Nurkic and Kanter being steady options in the frontcourt, there is really no need for a player like Kevin Love.

With $60.2M remaining on his contract, the Blazers should turn the other way from a potential Kevin Love deal and not even give this offer consideration. Trading for this kind of contract would be a detrimental move for this franchise.
