Why the Trail Blazers should not consider acquiring Kevin Love

Early on in the year, it looked like the Portland Trail Blazers could potentially contend for a title, then they hit a rough patch and fell a bit in the standings, but now, Portland is riding a four-game win streak and looking like one of the better offensive teams in the NBA.

Damian Lillard is starting to turn it up a notch with the playoffs right around the corner, as is C.J. McCollum and with other key role players playing at a high-level, this may be the Blazers best chance in a while to potentially make a deep playoff run, but they will likely fall short of reaching the Western Conference Finals because of how much firepower other teams in the league have.

As a result, the Portland Trail Blazers will be sent back to the drawing board this coming offseason to try and figure out how to build their team into a championship contender. Who knows who they will look to bring in to make this happen, but Kevin Love seems to like the idea of pairing up with Damian Lillard in Portland.

On the “Posted Up w/ C. Haynes Podcast” hosted by Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, Love was asked about the possibility of going home to Portland and playing for the Trail Blazers and he had this to say: “Who wouldn’t want to play with Dame Lillard, first of all? Dame, he’s special. He’s amazing. I claim Portland when people ask me where I’m from. I spent all my formative years, I grew up in Portland. … Whether it be at the end of my career, whether it be in six months, if I was wearing a Portland jersey, that’s special. That’s playing at home.”

Love obviously seems enamored by the idea of playing in his home city with Damian Lillard, but will the Blazers make this possible in the offseason? This will be something to watch in NBA trade rumors in the offseason. In the meantime, here are three reasons why the Blazers should stay away from Kevin Love and not consider acquiring him from the Cavaliers.
