There is no reason to keep a guy that does not contribute at a $30M/year level
Speaking of Kevin Love’s contract, he is set to make $31.26M next season and then $28.94M during the 2022-23 season. For a player in his 30s who is averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season, Love is not even close to performing at the level his contract says he should be playing at, which is why his value is minimal with the Cavaliers.
At $30M per year, Kevin Love is just eating away at the Cavaliers’ salary space, which they could use to actually bring in guys that could have an impact on their team’s chances of potentially making the playoffs.
They are not going to land the Kawhi Leonard’s and DeMae DeRozan’s in free agency, but the Cavaliers have virtually no cap space to even go after other key veteran talents to add to their roster! Kevin Love’s contract accounts for over 30% of the Cavaliers’ total contracts for next year, which is an absolute joke.

He is not worth his contract anymore given his recent production on the court and quite honestly, buying him out of his contract and just absorbing his contract over the next few years may just be as useful as keeping him on the court.
Cleveland got themselves into a bad situation when they signed Kevin Love to a $120M contract over four-years, and while it is time to move on from him, they will have their hands full trying to find someone to take on his contract over the next two years.
