Why it’s past time for the Cavaliers to move on from Kevin Love

Cleveland’s frontcourt is very crowded, especially since they will be re-signing Jarrett Allen

Acquiring Jarrett Allen in January was a huge pick-up for the Cavaliers, as he is one of the better, younger centers in the league, and with his breakout performances, he is going to be this team’s center moving forward. He is set to be a restricted free agent, but Cleveland is not prepared to let someone else sign Allen and he will likely remain with the Cavs.

As a result, the Cavaliers will have Kevin Love, Taurean Prince, Larry Nance Jr, Isaiah Hartenstein and possibly both Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade in their frontcourt should they re-sign both Allen and Wade in free agency.

Not to mention, the Cavaliers will likely end up with a top lottery pick in this year’s draft, giving them the possibility of adding yet another forward to their roster. There just is not room for playing time anymore in the Cavaliers’ frontcourt, which is why Love’s minutes will be the first to be cut down.

Believe it or not, the Cavaliers could actually compete for a playoff spot next year and given how well their youthful talents in the frontcourt have played, Kevin Love’s role is close to minimal at this point. He has had good games this season, but overall, Cleveland will tend to favor their young frontcourt options rather than Kevin Love, who is not as productive as he used to be, nor as productive as his contract says he should be.
