The Cavaliers are a young, hungry team and Love does not fit either of these two descriptions:
The Cavaliers average age of players currently on their roster is 23.4-years-old, making them one of the youngest teams in the entire league. Kevin Love is the oldest player on this roster at 32-years-old and while he brings a lot to the table in terms of veteran experience and leadership, he does not really fit in the Cavaliers long-term plans.
Cleveland has turned themselves into a young, hungry team on both ends of the court and Kevin Love is not that gritty, tough interior presence he once was.
While he has only played in 18 games this year, Love is averaging career-worsts in points, rebounds and shooting splits, which is why he is not as effective as a player as many thought entering the year.

Love’s best years of his career have come and gone and right now, he is just eating away at the Cavaliers salary space with really no purpose on this team in terms of production. Cleveland has tended to give more playing time to some of their younger players rather than the veteran big man, which is why Love’s future in Cleveland is up-in-the-air.
