If there is one team that is in need of a star in the offseason, it is the New York Knicks. They have been one of the surprises around the NBA and have a chance to clinch a playoff spot over the final few weeks.
Once the 2020-21 NBA season is complete, the Knicks could look to build on the surprising success they managed to achieve. One way to do so would be to push the chips in the center of the table and trade for an ascending star player.
That is where the Sacramento Kings come into play. Sacramento has been in NBA trade rumors since last offseason but have not made any big splashes.
Buddy Hield is still on the roster and has been viewed as the teams biggest trade piece for months now. That might not be the case moving forward. Harrison Barnes has played his way into being a real asset, too.
With another season of moving the playoffs, there could be a chance the Kings choose to make a major change to rebuild. If that is the case, De’Aaron Fox might be a surprise player sent away. He’s having an incredible season but his supporting cast hasn’t kept up.
The Knicks have improved this season mainly because of Tom Thibodeau on the sideline. He has the team playing defense and this has led them to being a competitive unit.
Both Julius Randle and RJ Barrett are having tremendous seasons on both ends. Barrett is a player who will continue to grow and improve over the years. Randle could be looking for a long-term contract as he is in the second of a three-year deal signed prior to last season. The Knicks seem to finally be heading in the right direction and now it is time to add that next-level player.
This could be a blockbuster deal that we see happen in the offseason. Here is what it might look like if Sacramento in New York team up for a trade.
