The Los Angeles Clippers are one of the top contenders to win the NBA Finals once again this season, but there are a lot of areas they could still improve their roster. Most notably, they could use an upgrade at the point guard position. Looking ahead to the upcoming NBA offseason, they should consider pursuing a trade for Boston Celtics star point guard Kemba Walker, who many expect to be available via trade.

Walker has had an up-and-down season with the Celtics, but there is no question that he is still a star. He simply does not fit perfectly with Boston. A move to the Clippers could be exactly what would help him get back on track.

One NBA scout spoke to NBA Analysis Network about the Clippers and what they could look at doing in the future. He believes that they should take a long, hard look at trading for Walker this offseason.

“I think L.A. should make a move for Kemba. He would fit perfectly alongside Kawhi and PG13. Walker would also take pressure off of the two stars and provide a third elite scoring presence.”

There is no doubt that a “Big Three” of Walker, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George would be lethal. The Clippers would have three elite scorers and adding Walker would give them another playmaker and creator. Opposing defenses would have to pick their poison and would lose no matter who they focused on stopping.

So far this season with the Celtics, Kemba Walker has averaged 17.7 points per game to go along with 5.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds. He has shot 39.7 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 34 percent of his three-point attempts. Those are not the numbers he wanted to average this season.

Due to the lack of a seamless fit for both sides, the Celtics could look to trade Walker this offseason. There were rumors last offseason that he was available for the right price. If he is indeed available, the Clippers should look into the possibility of acquiring him.

At 30 years of age, Walker is still in his prime and would be well worth the cost for the Clippers. They need to be aggressive if they want to beat out the Los Angeles Lakers out West. Walker could help them accomplish that goal.

Expect to see the Clippers finish this season strong and look to be aggressive in the offseason. Assuming they can keep both Leonard and George around long-term, adding a piece like Walker alongside them makes perfect sense.
