Luka Doncic – Dallas Mavericks

Entering the 2020-21 season, Luka Doncic was one of the favorites to win this year’s MVP award, but he did not get off to a great start. Well, he got off to a great start actually, but not to the standards that all of us held him to entering the year. 

Over the last month or so, Luka Doncic has really turned things on and he has been one of the most dominant players in the league that cannot be stopped with the ball in his hands. Since the All-Star break, Doncic is averaging 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 7.8 assists and is shooting 50.1% from the floor. 

In fact, since the All-Star break, Luka Doncic has helped the Mavericks climb up the standings in the Western Conference as they are now two games back from the Portland Trail Blazers for the 6-seed. This team is going to go as far as Luka is able to take them and given how well he has been playing, they are one of the hottest teams in the league right now.

Dallas has won 6 of their last 8 games and with Luka Doncic being “the guy” for them, he is definitely playing himself back into the MVP conversation. Again, it seems like Nikola Jokic is too far ahead for anybody to catch him, but if Luka continues to play at the level he is currently playing at, he could very well end up in second or third in the voting. 

A lot of this depends on if Doncic can carry the Mavericks any further up the standings in the Western Conference, but he is one of the best players in the entire league and seeing as he is basically single handedly carrying the Mavericks year-in and year-out, he deserves a lot more credit than he receives. 

Luka Doncic is one of the best, young talents in this league and with him only being 22-years-old, we can expect Luka to be in the MVP conversation not just this season, but for many seasons to come.
