Does this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?

Much like this trade does not make sense for the Warriors, it does not make much sense for the Hornets either. Getting James Wiseman and Andrew Wiggins gives them two, versatile, young players with a ton of potential, but the Hornets have been building with young talent for years and are finally winning. Now that they are winning and continuing to grow, why tear down everything that you have built over the years if you are Charlotte?

Saying that Charlotte is close to being in title contention is just foolish, especially given the talent that currently exists in the Eastern Conference. The Nets, 76ers and Bucks are not going anywhere anytime soon and while the Hornets have a bunch of young players that are going to continue to get better, this team is not going to become a championship contending team with the additions of Wiggins and Wiseman.

Maybe if they kept their current team and were somehow able to get a player like Karl-Anthony Towns or Kawhi Leonard, then yes, the Hornets could possibly work their way into title contention in the East, but right now, they are still years away from elevating themselves to that level.

The best thing the Hornets can do as an organization in the offseason is to keep their current talent and use the estimated $28.8M in cap space that they will likely have to not only sign/acquire an All-Star level frontcourt player, but continue filling out the rest of their roster with high-level, experienced players.

Charlotte also has a first-round pick this year and two second-round picks that they can either use in a trade to “buy” more talent or to continue adding more youthful, high-level talents to their young, hungry roster. The Hornets are in a great spot as a franchise, so there is no reason to tear thing apart, especially with a terrible trade proposal like this one.
