Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?
If the Pelicans can get Karl-Anthony Towns and pair him with Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, they will become one of the toughest teams to stop. Losing Lonzo Ball would definitely hurt their backcourt and their depth at the point guard position, but they would still have Eric Bledsoe, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis Jr.
Alexander-Walker would likely move into that starting role next to Bledsoe in the backcourt and all of a sudden, the Pelicans not only have a young, versatile lineup, but one of the most athletic and fast-paced lineups in the entire league.
Zion Williamson is a problem by himself in transition, but now teams would have to compensate for trying to stop Karl-Anthony Towns in the Pelicans frontcourt as well. Right now, the Pelicans are likely going to miss the playoffs, but they are not far off from being a legit threat in the Western Conference.

This team just needs that other high-level talent to pair with Zion and Ingram, which is why they should look to trade for Karl-Anthony Towns in the offseason. This trade just makes way too much sense for them not to pursue and with plenty of draft capital left after making this trade, the Pelicans would still have the ability to continue drafting players to build for the future.
If the Pelicans truly are looking to go “all-in” and turn their team into a legit threat, then they need to get a deal done in the offseason to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns. This will be an intriguing possibility to monitor in NBA trade rumors.
