This Lakers-Pistons offseason trade features Josh Jackson to L.A.

Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?

Quite honestly, while Josh Jackson is a really good player, the Lakers should not look to trade for him because what do they really get out of this deal? Both McKinnie and Gasol do not hold much value to the Lakers, which is why it makes sense to get rid of them, but is Jackson really worth giving up a first-round pick that Los Angeles really cannot afford to give up?

The Lakers only have three first-round picks (2022, 2025 & 2027) through the 2027 NBA Draft and with them not really having any young talents on their roster besides Kyle Kuzma and Talen Horton-Tucker (who could depart in the offseason), it would not be wise to trade yet another first-round pick.

Josh Jackson is a really solid player that would definitely make an impact off-the-bench for the Lakers next season, but he really isn’t a “difference-maker” type of player.

Re-signing Talen Horton-Tucker is definitely more important for the Lakers, which is why they should choose to keep THT over adding Josh Jackson in the offseason.

There just is not a ton of value in this deal for them to want to give up another future first-round pick, which is why this trade does not make total sense for the Lakers. There are many better options they can pursue and quite honestly, Josh Jackson would not really fit in well with the Lakers system.
