Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?

After trading away James Harden, the Houston Rockets entered a rebuilding process that will likely take a couple of seasons. John Wall, when on the court, has looked extremely effective this season, as has Christian Wood, but everybody else on this roster is either dispensable or still growing.

Kevin Porter Jr, Jae’Sean Tate and Kenyon Martin Jr. are all young players that have carved out futures with the Rockets this season and they will be focal points on this roster moving forward, but the same cannot be said for Eric Gordon.

He is now 32-years-old and eating up valuable cap space on a rebuild team’s roster. Trading him now for a draft pick or another young talent definitely makes sense, and in this deal, they get both of those things! This will be something to watch in NBA trade rumors.

Not only does Houston get a first-round pick from the Mavericks in 2025, but they end up with a young talent on the wing in Josh Green, who has a lot of potential to grow into something special. He has the length, the shooting skills and the versatility to be a really solid two-way guard in this league.

Eric Gordon will likely be on the move this offseason, but the only question that remains is where will he end up? His contract is really not that favorable for any team in this league given that Gordon is on the back-half of his career and making $18M+ per season, but he can still make a solid impact with a team like the Mavericks.

What teams decide to do in regards to targeting Gordon this offseason will definitely be an interesting development and storyline to keep tabs on.
