Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Eric Gordon

Houston Rockets Receive: G Josh Green, DAL 2025 1st Round Pick

The Houston Rockets have torn apart everything they have built over the last several seasons and quite honestly, the Mavericks could probably get Gordon for just a draft pick. In this deal, Dallas would include Josh Green and a future first-round pick for Eric Gordon, who is still set to be paid about $58.7M through the 2023-24 season should he not be waived ahead of time.

While that is a lot of money to pay a veteran player, Gordon can still contribute at a high-level and could be worth the investment for Dallas. This season, before injuring his groin, Eric Gordon was averaging 17.8 points, 2.6 assists and shooting 43.3% from the floor, 32.9% from three-point range.

Over the course of his career, Gordon has shot over 36% from three-point range and has always been a very consistent threat on the offensive-end of the court. Dallas needs reliable scorers, especially in the backcourt and on the wing next to Luka Doncic, which is exactly why going after Eric Gordon could make a ton of sense.

For the Rockets, at this point, they are willing to negotiate for pretty much anybody on their roster. Other than some of their young talents, everybody on their roster is available for the right price, which is why the Mavs could easily get Gordon at the cost of a future draft pick.

After trading both Westbrook and Harden, the Rockets have made their intentions to rebuild clear and as a result, they should be more than willing to accept less value for a guy like Eric Gordon, who is owed a ton of money through the next few seasons.

Now, let’s take a look at if this trade truly makes sense for both teams and how this trade could impact both teams moving into next season.
