Why This Trade Would Make Sense For The Indiana Pacers

It did not take long for NBA trade rumors to begin coming out of Indiana. They have been a staple in the postseason but it is not looking that way so far this year. This has led to the front office throwing some NBA trade rumors out into the universe. Potentially moving Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis would certainly turn heads if they are moved and it is possible with their current contract situations. Turner is another name that would land a big return.

It would be wise for the Pacers to keep one around and if they make this deal, it is obvious that they are going to stick with Malcolm Brogdon. If Indiana wants to retool assets, ideal such as this one would be wise given the fact that they are getting some rotation ready players and draft capital.

The rationale for the Pacers in this scenario boils down to the fact that paying two centers doesn’t make much sense in today’s NBA. Especially when considering how Myles Turner is an elite rim protector that excels playing alongside perimeter scorers with his stretch-five skill-set. He thrives in the margins of the game on both ends while Sabonis is a defensive liability that needs to be featured offensively.

The idea behind this scenario for the Pacers is that Robert Covington would slot in alongside Myles Turner in the frontcourt to maximize the impact of their defense. Covington is a wing that provides legitimate interior impact in addition to his on-ball impact out in space. There would be a switch-everything potential to this group while on the other end, Indiana’s offense would have the potential to space the floor from each position on the court.

The front office of Indiana is no stranger to big moves and we can see another one coming here. They have made it clear that losing it’s not an option and when that happens, things need to change.
