Why This Trade Would Make Sense For The Detroit Pistons
Detroit came into the season with the intention of moving their veteran players. Rose was sent to New York and the team agree to a buy out with Blake Griffin, who ultimately signed with the Brooklyn Nets. Moving forward, there are other pieces that could be moved from the Pistons to clear some space.
Grant is one of those players. He signed a three-year deal in the offseason worth $63 million. This is the first year of his deal and the Pistons could look to dump the rest of the contract. Grant would benefit a team looking to take that next step in the Pistons are still far off.
The return would be two young players interested in a fresh start. Knox has been moved to the bench for the next while Obi Toppin continues to struggle when he gets a chance. It would benefit the Pistons greatly to add young players along with draft capital.

It’s not a need for the Pistons to trade Jerami Grant in the NBA offseason. However, his drastic improvement could be a prime opportunity to further their long-term rebuilding efforts. He is playing at such a high-level that was not expected to take place. He showed his importance to winning basketball during his lone season with the Denver Nuggets. This season has shown what he can do in a larger role, too.
Both Kevin Knox II and Obi Toppin could be developmental pieces along with Killian Hayes, when healthy. It is going to be a long road for the Pistons and the trade like this can just get them into motion. Detroit would be adding more intriguing assets and young players that will help down the road.
