New York Knicks Receive: Jerami Grant

Detroit Pistons Receive: Obi Toppin, Kevin Knox II, 2021 1st Round Pick (via DAL), 2021 2nd Round Pick (via DET), 2022 1st Round Pick, 2023 2nd Round Pick (via DET)

Jerami Grant has taken his game to the next level since becoming the focal point of the offense in Detroit. He is one of the true ‘3-and-D’ guys in the league, which is extremely valuable for any team. He is showing that he can lead the way on the offensive end and be an integral part of the team. He would fit in perfectly with the Knicks and Tom Thibodeau.

The Knicks have an NBA All-Star talent in Julius Randle to build around in addition to RJ Barrett. Adding Jerami Grant into the mix would help further their rebuilding efforts given how much of a need it is for them to add another talented wing that can thrive defensively while raising the ceiling of their half-court offense.

New York has plenty of assets they would be able to send Detroit. It begins with Obi Toppin and Kevin Knox. They are both players with struggle to get comfortable with the current rotation. The Knicks will also be able to send some draft capital that they have acquired over the years.

The Pistons got a real steal in Jerami Grant in NBA free agency last offseason. Many were questioning why they decided to pay him such a large contract given he has mostly been a role player throughout his career. While he’s been a good one, there was real question about whether he’d be able to live up to that lofty value, but he’s made that now look like a bargain. Now, he could be an attractive trade target.

Let’s take a closer look and see how this NBA offseason trade scenario centered around Jerami Grant would benefit both the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks.
