Minnesota Timberwolves Receives: Kevin Love, 2022 2nd Round Pick (via HOU), 2023 1st Round Pick

Cleveland Cavaliers Receives: Ricky Rubio, Juan Hernangomez, Jake Layman

This is a good deal for each team because it allows them to build up their current rosters while also building up for the future as well. The Timberwolves would benefit from having a savvy veteran in Kevin Love back on their roster, while the Cavaliers would benefit from the trio of talented role players.

Cleveland would get a very solid return investment from dealing away Kevin Love in Juan Hernangomez, Ricky Rubio, and Jake Layman, which could certainly help the team compete for a playoff spot beyond this season.

Love is under contract through the 2022-23 season, so they will need to get some great value in order to agree to a deal. Simply moving on from his deal would be a bonus for the Cavaliers given how they are soon going to have to pay hefty price tags to keep some of their young building blocks that will be in need of contract extensions in the relative near future.

Taking on the hefty contract of Kevin Love wouldn’t be the most favorable outcome for the Timberwolves. However, they will need to be willing to shoulder some of that burden if they are to improve in the immediate future to speed up their timeline to appeal to Karl-Anthony Towns.

This trade gives both sides exactly what they’re looking for in terms of talent, and it’s a very fair deal between two competitive rosters. Let’s take a look at how this trade directly impacts each team directly.
