After missing the playoffs last season for the first time since 1997, the San Antonio Spurs find themselves right in the thick of things again in the Western Conference. They currently find themselves as the 9-seed in the Western Conference and will have to fight for a playoff spot much like last season, but they should be able to sneak their way in.

Whether or not they do make the playoffs, this team still has a ways to go before they are championship contenders again, which is why they are building a young core for the future. Led by Dejounte Murray and Derrick White, the Spurs have plenty of young talents, which is why they could look to add Talen Hoton-Tucker in the offseason.

If DeMar DeRozan departs in NBA free agency, they will have a void to fill on the wing and with the attention they have given the shooting guard/small-forward position over the years, it would make sense for the Spurs to target a guy like THT.

He can defend at a high-level, he can facilitate and most importantly, he is only 20-years-old and still developing as an all-around talent. The shooting numbers and scoring numbers are only going to go up and in a patient system with other high-level athletes, Horton-Tucker could fit right in with what the Spurs do.

The only thing that may steer the Spurs away from going after Talen Horton-Tucker though is the fact that they have other areas that need to be addressed. If they lose DeRozan, then they will have a huge void to fill at their forward position and they are pretty weak already in the frontcourt, so adding a 6’4” shooting guard may not be the best move for them to make.
