Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?
This trade makes 100% sense for the New Orleans Pelicans and they should want to execute this trade as soon as the season ends. Myles Turner is arguably the best defensive player in the entire league and the best shot-blocker in the entire league, which is the last thing the Pelicans need to add to their roster to finally be a threat in the Western Conference.
Offensively, they are a really solid basketball team with Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball leading the charge, but defensively, this team has really struggled this season. They are giving up just under 115 points per game to their opponents, ranking them as the 27th best team in this category.
Adding Myles Turner not only gives them an anchor to depend on defensively, but Turner is more than capable of being a threat offensively as well. He has the ability to step out on the perimeter and knock down shots, which is why he is exceptionally good in pick-and-roll sets.
Not to mention, Turner could easily be the third/fourth best scoring option on this team, giving the Pelicans everything they need offensively to match up with basically any team in the Western Conference.

Steven Adams is a really solid player and pulls his weight on both ends of the court, but he is not a high-level, impactful player like Myles Turner and is not much of a rim-protector like Turner is. As a result, giving up Adams, Hayes and a first-round pick is well worth it for a young player like Myles Turner who would fit in perfectly next to Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.
